Anyone wishing to seawatch from the Whitburn Observatory is asked NOT to access the hide through the NORTH door. The lock of this door does not work at the moment and therefore, if the door is opened, it will not be possible to lock the hide. The South door can still be used. Thank you for your co-operation.

There will be a "Shoveler's" volunteer day at Castle Lake NR on 14/11/2009. We will be doing ditch work for wet grassland management.  Meet at the farm next to the church in Bishop Middleham at NZ327312 at 09.00hrs. Please bring a spade, packed lunch, warm clothing and boots or wellies.

A field trip to the Northumberland coast will be running on Sunday 11th October. Details can be found in the Summer Lek and on the Field trips page. In addition to the usual targets, possible species to be seen on the trip include Crane, Buff-breasted Sandpiper and Glossy Ibis. Contact John Todd or Paul Anderson if interested.

The first Northern Experience Pelagic Trip (in association with Northumberland & Tyneside Bird Club) is on Friday 24th July 2009. A 4-hour evening pelagic departing Royal Quays Marina at 18:00 and from Customs House, Mill Dam, South Shields, soon after.  Cost £20 per person for DBC members.  Target species; Storm Petrel, Great Skua, cetaceans.

A healthy turn out of around 20 members made the journey to the west of the County. Bright clear skies and a moderate breeze was a good sign that it could be a decent raptor day, and so it turned out.
