After our initial two-year programme of Barn Owl box development and installation, I promised that we would invite club members to visit a breeding site.  After this year's survey we have a pair utilising a box in the Wear valley, and thus I would like to ask the membership if they would like to attend a field trip to see these birds.

Durham Bird Club members are invited to an open day at Farnless Farm, Bishop Middleham, on Sunday 1st June from 10:00 to 16:00.  This event is open to the general public and aims to give an insight into the plight of our disappearing farmland birds.

Volunteer day: building a tern raft · John Olley · Added 8 March 2008

A volunteer day will take place on Saturday 15th March, meeting at Barmston Pond.  The purpose of the day is to build a tern raft for the pond.  We will meet at the pond, grid reference NZ328572, at 10:30 hrs, and then travel to the depot to build the raft.  Tools will be provided - only enthusiasm is required!

A volunteer day at Brancepeth Beck is being organised for 9th February.  The focus of the day will be scrub clearance and placement of Barn Owl boxes.  Meet at Page Bank car park, grid reference NZ233355, at 09:30 hrs.  Please bring loppers (some can be provided), lunch if required, and warm clothing.
