Cure for login problem · Added 7 July 2008
Apologies to those members who are currently experiencing a problem with Internet Explorer, whereby they are having to repeatedly re-enter the members' password. The following actions are known to cure the problem:
1. In Internet Explorer, select Tools > Internet Options
2. In the dialog window which appears, in the 'Browsing history' section, click on the 'Settings' button.
3. In the dialog window which appears, click on the 'View files' button.
4. A window entitled 'Temporary Internet Files' should appear. It is quite possible that it contains a very LONG list of files. You need to find the file called 'cookie:...@www.durhambirdclub.org/' where the ... bit is your username on your computer, for example 'cookie:fred@www.durhambirdclub.org/'. Putting the files in 'name' order may help you to find this file.
5. Right-click on this file and select 'Delete' (then, if you are asked to confirm this, click 'Yes').
6. You can now close the 'Temporary Internet Files' window. The problem should now be solved. In other words, you should now have to log in only once per browser session - or, if you check the 'Stay logged in until...' checkbox, only once until the next change of password.
A proper fix for this problem, such that members do not experience it in the first place, will be put in place when time allows.
