Funeral arrangements for Brian Unwin, 21.05.1944 - 29.12.2011 · Mark Newsome · Added 4 January 2012

Following a long fight against cancer, Brian sadly passed away at home on the evening of 29th December.

Despite increasingly poor health over recent years, Brian was an enthusiastic birder and remained well-known throughout the county. For many years, Brian wrote a weekly column in the Northern Echo, and in more recent years he was a regular contributor to a wide variety of bird watching and countryside magazines, highlighting the excellent bird watching that can be enjoyed in County Durham. A diligent recorder of birds, he continued to submit his detailed sightings to the BTO via BirdTrack every month, adding to our ever-increasing knowledge of the birds of our county. The club offers his family and friends our most sincere condolences. For those wishing to attend, the funeral will take place at 10am on Wednesday 11 January at St Mark's Church, Hylton Road, Sunderland.
