Trip report: identification workshop at Thornley Woods · Derek Charlton · Added 21 January 2008
A decent turn out for the second identification workshop, this time at Thornley Woodland Centre. A great showing by Jay with up to 5 coming and going, with Coal Tits, Great Tits, Bullfinch and Chaffinch also abundant. Yellowhammers were seen close to the hide along with Lesser Redpoll, Siskin and Nuthatch, and a pair of Great Spotted Woodpecker were also picked out. It was also a great opportunity for those present to see the difference between Wood Pigeon and the normally elusive Stock Dove. Next stop was Far Pasture, where the Red Kites put on a great show. On entering the hide a few Snipe were picked out along with a few Teal, and just before leaving a Kingfisher posed for ten minutes, giving great views, the highlight of a pleasant morning.
