Indoor meetings
Indoor meetings programme 2008 / 2009 · Added 24 July 2008
In the last two seasons, we have tried varying the location of indoor meetings. This has had limited success, with very small numbers of members attending at most locations. The committee have decided that this year we will concentrate on a single location for the whole season. The most successful location in terms of numbers attending in both the 2006 / 7 and 2007 / 8 seasons has been the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Washington, and so it is with their continued assistance that meetings will be held there on the following dates:
Thursday 18 September 2008
Thursday 13 November 2008
Thursday 16 April 2009
Thursday 18 June 2009
Speakers and topics are still to be finalised at the time of writing (July 2008) but the season will begin on 18 September 2008 with Mark Newsome talking about co-leading a birdwatching tour to "Lake Kerkinia - a magical Greek wetland".
All talks will commence at approximately 7:30 p.m. but remember that access to the building will be from 7 p.m., so come along early and enjoy a social chitchat about all things birdy in Durham over a drink. Tea, coffee, soft drinks, wine and beer are all available at WWT Washington at reasonable prices.
In addition to these talks it is expected that the usual Christmas quiz / social evening will be held in a suitable licensed establishment in December; the AGM, along with a review of 2008, will take place in February; the Fieldworkers' meeting will happen in early March; and a summer social / quiz event and possibly a barbecue will take place in the summer of 2009.
Further information will appear in the Autumn 2008 edition of the Lek and will be posted on the club website in due course.
