Here's a look at the arrival dates of some of our spring visitors in 2006. March Records:- Swallow, Sand Martin, House Martin, Wheatear, Ring Ouzel, Little Ringed Plover, Black necked Grebe & Chiffchaff. April 1st Avocet – One at Port Clarence with a pair nearby on 14th.
3rd Garganey – A pair on Back Saltholme, with 5 birds on 23rd. 5th Willow Warbler – singing at Shibdon Pond. 7th Yellow Wagtail – SAFC Academy & 4 pairs at River Team on 11th. 8th Osprey – Dormans Pool & 1 north over Edmundbyers on 13th. 11th Common Sandpiper – Houghton & Hurworth Burn on 14th. 13th Whimbrel - Whitburn. 15th Manx Shearwater – Whitburn. 15th Arctic Tern – Whitburn & 2 at Hartlepool Headland the next day. 15th Redstart – Stargate & Herrington CP. 16th Grasshopper Warbler – Usworth, Washington. 17th Common Tern – Whitburn. 17th Pied Flycatcher – Muggleswick. 18th Common Tern – Saltholme Pools. 19th Sedge Warbler – Dormans Pool. 19th Spotted Redshank – Greatham Crrek. 20th Swift - Lamesley, with 16+ at Dormans by 26th. 20th Common Whitethroat – Cowpen Bewley.
21st Tree Pipit – Burnhopeside. 21st Reed Warbler – Dormans Pool. 22nd Hobby (x3) – Marsden, Haverton and North Gare. 22nd Cuckoo – Old Quarrington & Tunstall Res the next day. 23rd Arctic Skua – Whitburn. 23rd Common Whitethroat – 2 males at Herrington CP. 24th Spotted Flycatcher – Tunstall Res. 24th Wood Warbler – Tunstall Res & Haverton Hole next day. 24th Lesser Whitethroat – Southwick. 24th Blue Headed Wagtail – Lamesley and Seaton Carew. 25th Wood Sandpiper – Back Saltholme Pools.
