Derwent Res Ospreys

Again there was 4 birds present this evening, two sat on fence-posts on the southern side, one eating a trout in the beech opposite the hide with another fishing over no-mans land in the middle!

Yes on Saturday evening, don't know about previous to that. At any time there's the possibility that there are even more birds around, many of them are colour ringed but rarely close enough to get the number. Some birds spend a few minutes fishing then take their catch up onto the moors to eat - can only count the birds that are in view at the same time...

Four ospreys again early this morning, had hoped to find more... A least one of the birds seemed to be struggling to catch fish, spending a lot of time hovering and several dives without a catch, before circling really high and drifting off south. perhaps on its way....
