A few highlights from around the reserve over the past few days;

21/10/17

Water Rail - Seen outside the Diageo Hide on Wader Lake, highly alert and rather slim. Potential migrant?

no sign since.

22/10/17

Merlin - Male seen briefly over Wader Lake Meadow

Bewick's Swan - single bird seen flying east along river corridor. Relatively low over wader lake footpath. Heard vocalising once before being lost from sight.

Curlew & Common Snipe numbers building on the lake, with the snipe showing some nice tail fan and bounce action.

Jack Snipe also spotted by other staff member amongst the Common.

Sparrowhawk activity is at a spike around the feeding station and the first siskin of the season hav been noted.

No Crossbill over yet though I remain optimistic!
