2016 saw me take on a hand full of barn owl boxes to monitor. John olley gave me a list of over 200 boxes that cover the county. I picked a few that were local to me. I should also mention I'm a bto licenced ringer with a schedule 1 licence. The boxes i monitored weren't very active in 2016 with no confirmed breeding. I did catch and ring a few adults and i controlled an adult meaning it had a ring on but was not one of mine. It turned out it was ringed as a chick in 2013 in warcop in cumbria so that was great. 2017 was a little better and with a few more boxes to look after it was all go. More adults caught and our first chicks the bird from warcop gave us 3 chicks. Tawnys took over a few boxes and breed well. For 2018 I'm hopeful for more occupied boxes and I've more new sites to take on. If anyone knows of any occupied sites then let the group know.
